Vasaloppet Time Estimator - background

How fast will you be able to do the 90 KILOMETERS xc-skiing in vasaloppet? THORAXTRAINER “VASALOPPE TIME ESTIMATOR” WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD ESTIMATE. READ THE STORY ABOUT THE TEST AND THE FORMULA BEHIND IT.

Several scientific studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between performance in Vassaloppet and the result performed in a short test in ThoraxTrainer.

Based on this knowledge and the sampling of data from many finishers in Vasaloppet,  we have created our “Vasaloppet Time Estimator”.

The test, therefore  is based on scientific studies and many years of experience and own collection of test data from people who have trained in ThoraxTrainer and participated in Vasaloppet.

In summary, the formula is calibrated based on many both experienced and inexperienced participants in Vasaloppet, and it has been found to be fairly accurate within +/- 15-20 minutes.

WHAT CAN BIAS THE TIME ESTIMATE?

When using ThoraxTrainers “Vasaløbs Time Estimator”, please note that the calculation is of course only an estimate. It will not  give you an exact time of your potential finish time in Vasaloppet.

There are obviously many factors in the real world that will affect how fast you will be able to complete Vasaloppet.

One of the most obvious  is the weather and snow conditions on raceday of Vasaloppet.

In order to get the most accurate correlation between the test estimate and your Vasaloppet finish time, the following is  required:

  • That you have a fairly good skiing technique
  • That the weather is not either extremely cold or warm
    Why? The weather greatly affects your glide and kick.  In difficult weather conditions you     will not be able to convert your powers to the same speed as on a ThoraxTrainer. And therefore the test result will be more or less inaccurate.
  • That the tracks are good and firm all the way through the course.
  • That your skis are waxed properly for the actual weather conditions

In addition, your starting group (startled) has an impact on your time  which the test does not take into account. If you start in starting group 10, you must add 45-60 minutes to the time you get in the vasaloppet estimator. If you start in starting group 2, add 10-15 minutes.

If you are participating in ”open track” (öppet spår),  you can rely on the time you  will get from the estimator without adding any time.

Once you have done so, send us an email with your finish time in Vasaloppet and your starting group, as well as your distance achieved in the  ThoraxTrainer test . Please write also, a bit about how experienced you are as a skier and which model ThoraxTrainer you used for the test.
